Sprains
Did you know that a severe sprain can act like a broken bone? Sprains occur when ligaments get stretched too far. Mild sprains occur when the ligament is simply stretched. Severe sprains occur when the ligament fibers are torn. This type of injury tends to hurt right away. There is swelling and bruising and it hurts to use that part of the body. Because sprains and broken bones can look the same, it’s advisable to get checked by a doctor soon after the injury occurs. Keep the injury part elevated above your heart and keep ice on it. If there is no broken bone, rest and acetaminophen or ibuprofen for the pain will be the best medicine for your sprain.
